Taking Care of Your New Tattoo
You just got an incredible new piece - now what? Proper aftercare is the difference between a tattoo that looks amazing for decades and one that fades or scars. Here's everything you need to know.
The First 24 Hours
Leave the bandage on for the time your artist recommends (usually 2-4 hours, or overnight if using a second-skin bandage). When you remove it, gently wash with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap.
Days 2-14: The Healing Phase
- Wash gently 2-3 times daily
- Apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer
- Don't pick at scabs or peeling skin
- Avoid submerging in water (no baths, pools, or hot tubs)
- Keep it out of direct sunlight
Long-Term Care
Once healed, your tattoo still needs protection. Always apply sunscreen to tattooed skin when exposed to sun. Keep your skin moisturized. These simple habits will keep your ink looking fresh for years to come.
When to Call Your Artist
If you notice excessive redness, swelling, or signs of infection, contact your artist or a healthcare provider. Most healing issues are minor, but it's always better to be safe.
